What music do you listen to when you write poetry?

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for some new music, I love to listen to music when I write. Currently I like Enigma and Enya. Or any nature type, meditation, music with no words or very little. Instrumental. Just looking for something similar to Enigma or Enya, along those lines :) Thanks so much!

Well for me… it depends on what kind of writing I’m doing. If I’m writing some deep anger work or scary stories, I usually listen to harder rock.

If I do peaceful stuff, then I listen to natures sounds, or soft rock.

Sad stuff, I listen to songs that bring back old memories that make me cry to no end.

You can try these for harder rock: Mudvayne, Saliva, Godsmack, Tool, Filter, etc.

For peaceful stuff, you could try: Robert Miles, etc. (or just get a nature CD)

For different pieces of writing, maybe try techno?

Like I said, I think it all depends on the mood.
I usually listen to: Godsmack, Shiny Toy Guns, Filter, and Robert Miles.

good luck

  7. Me personally, I don’t listen to music when I write. Everybody’s different.

Also, when I feel like listening to music, I just listen to what feels right for me, whatever I have in my head. I usually have some song in my head but not there completely and the urge comes to sing it and it does not come out well, so I listen to that.
